During her early career on her father’s team, one of her very close friends Eric Medlen who was a rising star in NHRA died. Sadly, Eric passed away in an accident with a serious head injury while test driving.

Ashley disclosed the death saying,

“It changed everything for me. I had never lost anyone that close to me. Eric was so much more than a teammate. He was like my brother.”

“We grew up together. He had dinner with us on Thanksgiving and Christmas. So you can’t prepare for something that this or how you’ll get through it.”

The tragic death of Eric has taught her some difficult lessons about life.

Hood Won A Race Against Her Father John Force

In 2007, in the NHRA Southern Nationals which took place at the Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia, John, and his daughter Ashley had to race each other. Surprisingly, Hood defeated her father who was seeking his 1,000th career round win.

She beat John with an elapsed time of 4.779 seconds, and a speed of 317.05 mph (510.24 km/h). Her father was a little bit sad about the defeat, but at the same time as a father, he felt proud. He even said,

“It’s great for her that she gets that win and gets that out of the way. I’m a little disappointed that my car didn’t run a little bit better.”

“I’m proud of her. She did her job. She didn’t do anything stupid at the starting line. … I love her.”
