The late Melanie Olmstead was born on 15 Nov 1968, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA. She was the adopted daughter of a U.S. military veteran Reid Howard, and his first wife, Janet Corbridge.

Ried was a U.S. Army veteran and served an LDS mission in St. Louis Missouri. He also was at the Defense Depot of Ogden for 25 years, until his retirement in 1991.

Ried and his wife Janet adopted Melanie in 1968, following the death of their newly born kid in 1960. The family of three led a beautiful life until Melanie’s adopted mother Janet died of diabetes-related complications in April 1979.

Following the death of Janet, Ried married his second wife Loa Rose Hanson, the Delta, Utah native, in February 1982 in the Ogden temple. Ried and his second wife Hanson were in a relationship for 34 years until his death on June 11, 2016.

Olmstead was the part of Paramount series, Yellowstone

Melanie led a successful career in the Hollywood film industry. She had worked behind the camera for numerous Hollywood movies as the location management and transportation head.

However, Olmstead is mostly recognized for her dedication to the creation of the Paramount Network’s successful show Yellowstone. She reportedly worked in Yellowstone as a filming crew and transporter for the production team. In the series, she worked alongside Josh Holloway, Kevin Costner.

Tragically, their marriage came to an abrupt end on 25 May 2019, with the death of Melanie.

Olmstead Had Real Love For Horses

Just like the Yellowstone characters, Olmstead had a strong love for horses. In fact, her last post on Facebook, before her death, was dedicated to her horse.

In her last post on June 13, 2018, Melanie wrote a lengthy message wishing her horse “Mahogany” on her 37th birthday. Sadly, her horse also died around a month after Olmstead’s death.

Melanie died on 25 May 2019, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA. She was 50 at the time of her demise. The cause of her death is yet to reveal.

In honor of Melanie, her family and friends held a celebration of life on June 30. Also owing to her love for horses, her close ones had a horse ride a day before on June 29.

Regarding the event, one of her friends wrote,

Celebration of life for Melanie Olmstead was amazing! Horsewomen, Writers, Artists, Theater, Film, cast and crew peeps! Some I have known for 30 years! What beautiful souls! My Salt Lake family! Ride on, our beautiful Melanie Olmstead! ?.

Likewise, another friend also came up with a sweet comment after the tragic loss.

I remember the first time I ever saw Melanie’s sweet face …  back in the 90s. And every time thereafter I marveled at her calm presence. Such loss.

Melanie is no more with us. But her contribution as a person will always remain and will be cherished forever.
